VANNIN (ISLE OF MAN)

THE LAND

Vannin is the smallest of all the Keltic kingdoms and is located equidistant between Scota, Britannia, Erinna, and Kymry in the Hiberean Sea. The Island consists of a central mountain mass culminating in Snaefell and extending north and south in low lying agricultural land and rocky coastlines and high cliffs.

The Island is treeless for the most part being mainly bush and scrubland. The mountainous central area is broken by a number of hidden valleys and deep gorges. The Island sports one fresh water river that wells up from the roots of Snaefell and flow's westward to the coast to empty into the Hiberean Sea.

THE PEOPLE

Vannin's main claim to fame is that the first King of Keltia, Uther Pendragon, was from Vannin and made the Island the capitol of Keltia. The people of Vannin are a rather liberal bunch who have become use to the ways of magic and technology. The isles position as the capital of the Keltic nation has drawn people from all around the world. Vannin has become a center of commerce and trade not only amongst the seven Keltic nations but also amongst the outside world.

The People of Vannin make a living mainly from fishing and raising cattle and sheep and Trade. The island does support some agriculture the major crops being oat, wheat, barley, turnips, and potatoes.

The major city on Vannin is the Keltic capitol of Avalon. Avalon is located near the center of the island, in a hidden valley, at the foot of Mt. Snaefell. The next largest city on Vannin is the port trading city of Tulach Mhor.

Just off the southern coast of Vannin is a small island known as the Calf of man. This small island is significant as it belongs to the Dragon Conclave. The Dragon Conclave is a secret order of powerful wizards and magus who oversee the use of magic and magical training for all of Keltia. It is said that none may practice the magical arts anywhere in Keltia with out the blessings of the Dragon Conclave. No one ever journeys to the calf of man without being invited to do so. It is said that ships venturing to close to the island are attacked and destroyed by sea monsters and strange storms.
